Essential Oils and Self-Care

My awareness of natural products and our need for them began in 2010 when I was on a student exchange and had to do a presentation on health and self-care. I was exposed to essential oils at the local market in Ukraine and grew fascinated by the smells and scents from simple plants distilled in oil form: cinnamon, peppermint, lavender, nutmeg…and the list goes on. I was like a small child in a candy store, sampling all the scents with a whiff and making sure that my friend who was with me, didn’t miss any of the enchanting smells either.

Essential oils are steam distilled from plants, which means that they are liquefied versions of plants! They are concentrated plant extracts that retain the natural smell, and properties of the plant.

My favorite essential oils would have to be either peppermint or lavender. Peppermint has such a vibrant smell that opens up the sinuses when you have a cold and relieves headaches. I have also always loved lavender because of its stress-relieving properties. Do you have a favourite essential oil? We’d love to hear from you!
